St Martin's CofE Primary & Nursery School

A village school in the heart of the city

Routines and Expectations

Dropping Off and Picking Up

Please be on time when dropping off your child at Nursery or Reception, in order for them to settle for the session(s).  To minimise upset to your child it is important that families should be at Nursery/Reception ready to collect their child by the end of their session.

If you encounter an emergency that prevents you from being here and it is not possible to make alternative arrangements then please contact the school on (01273) 707114.  If someone else is going to collect your child then they must have the password which needs to be given to the school office.

Lunchtimes

The children will need to be provided with a healthy pack lunch.  This should be food that they are able to eat independently and  ideally be able to finish within 20-30 minutes.  There is also an option for children to have a school lunch.  Please ask for details at the school office.

Snacks and Drinks

The school provides water and a selection of fresh fruit daily.  Under a government scheme all children under 5 years receive a small carton of free milk at Nursery and Reception.  We also provide free cereal to children in Nursery and Reception.  All children will need a labelled water bottle. It is essential you inform staff if your child has any allergies.

Feeling Poorly?

Please ensure your child remains at home if they are unwell.  After any sickness or diarrhea children must be kept at home for 48 hours (from the last bout of illness) to ensure they are well and ready for Nursery/Reception again.

What to Wear in Nursery

We encourage our Nursery children to wear school uniform as they are a part of our primary school.   Our school sweatshirts and cardigans are advised, although school uniform is not compulsory for Nursery Children.  In nursery we will be exploring many activities including messy ones such as painting and gluing, and physical ones such a running and climbing.  Please supply a change of clothes (non uniform is fine) and shoes in a bag, in case of any 'accidents' your child may have.

What to Wear in Reception

We expect our Reception children to wear school uniform every day, including the correct footwear for indoors and outdoors as we believe that wearing school uniform helps to give children a sense of belonging to the school.
